About

My name is Nathan Horner. At the time of writing this about page my wife, Erin, and I have just moved to Richmond with our 11-month-old son, Theodore. I recently began working as “Church-Planter in Residence” at Redeemer Anglican Church. This position is three years long and during my time here (lord-willing) I will be ordained as a Priest in the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA), within the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic. Erin and I are really excited for this new season and for all the work and blessing that the Lord is  holding before

What is the purpose of this blog?

In short, the purpose of this blog is to keep any and all of our friends updated on our lives and to share thoughts and reflections on Church. As my job title implies, the goal of these next three years is to receive training and equipping so that Erin and I might be prepared to plant an Anglican church in Virginia Beach in the future. The time frame for this is not entirely clear. If things went well, it could be as soon as August 2028 that we’d be starting a plant, but it also could be further out than that.

In this time of training and equipping I wanted to create a space for any of our friends, mentors, brothers and sisters in the faith to be able to hear from and engage with us. I also wanted to create a space where I could communicate and share bits and pieces of my own vision for what an Anglican Church in Virginia Beach could look like.

Regardless of whether you think you’d like to join us in planting an Anglican Church in the future, know that if you are reading this Erin and I are grateful for you! The Lord has blessed us so abundantly during our time in Virginia Beach that we want to make it our home for the long run and invest in that community with our lives and the good news of God’s Kingdom! For us being obedient to God has included a call to Church ministry, but so many of you who are reading this are the people who are investing in the place we love by your holy lives, acts of service, and deep love for Jesus! Your labor is not in vain and we give thanks to God for you!

So, I hope you enjoy these posts. I hope they bless your life, keep us connected, and help provide an early vision for what we sense is God’s call on our life together! Allow me to close by including an all-time favorite quote from George MacDonald that I consider to be a guiding principle of my own:

“No teacher should strive to make men think as he thinks, but to lead them to the living Truth, the Master himself, who will make them in themselves know what is true by the very seeing of it. To be the disciple of Christ is the end of being; to persuade men to be his disciples is the end of teaching.”

P.S. – I hope to keep my writing for this blog at least somewhat light-hearted and whimsical, while also dealing with content of real substance. So don’t be surprised if I slip some jokes and humor in here and there.
